Wearing of the Green – And Your Skin!

Now what does that have to do with skin wellness? It does and it doesn’t.

I am a wee bit passionate about my Irish heritage. St. Patrick’s Day is my favorite holiday. And “wearing of the green” is a common phrase to celebrate March 17th. So, St. Patrick’s has nothing to do with skin wellness.

Here is my connection to skin wellness – with the color green.

A few food items great for the skin include:

  • Asparagus – strengthens blood vessels with rutin, flavonoid; increases your collagen production and skin elasticity (Vitamin C); provides hydration and protects your skin cell membranes and UV exposure (Vitamin E). ANTIOXIDANTS
  • Avocado – improves tone, thickness and general appearance with a high level of beta-carotene. ANTIOXIDANTS
  • Broccoli – increases your collagen production and skin elasticity (Vitamin C), and protects your skin cell membranes and UV exposure (Vitamin E). ANTIOXIDANTS
  • Brussel sprouts – increases your collagen production and skin elasticity (Vitamin C). ANTIOXIDANTS
  • Celery – thickens and stimulates your dermis by reducing wrinkles (Vitamin A); increases your collagen production and skin elasticity (Vitamin C); provides hydration (Vitamin E). ANTIOXIDANTS
  • Collard greens – thickens and stimulates your dermis by reducing wrinkles (Vitamin A); increases your collagen production and skin elasticity (Vitamin C). ANTIOXIDANTS
  • Cucumber – thickens and stimulates your dermis by reducing wrinkles (Vitamin A); increases your collagen production and skin elasticity (Vitamin C) helps keep ,moisture in skin (Vitamin B or pantothenic acid); reduces dark circles under eyes (Vitamin K).  ANTIOXIDANTS
  • Green tea – improves smoothness and elasticity of your skin. Boosts blood flow and oxygen to your skin. Your skin looks healthier with EGCG. POLYPHENOLS, ANTIOXIDANTS
  • Kale – neutralizes UV exposure and firms your skin (lutein and zeaxanthin, Vitamin C and A).  ANTIOXIDANTS
  • Kiwi – increases your collagen production, reduces dryness and wrinkles. ANTIOXIDANTS
  • Lettuce – neutralizes UV exposure and firms your skin (lutein and zeaxanthin, Vitamin C and A).  ANTIOXIDANTS
  • Rosemary – decreases risk of melanoma by reducing the exposure of free radicals from the sun.
  • Spinach – increases nutrients to your skin that is high in beta-carotene ANTIOXIDANTS

All of the above green foods are alkaline and will improve your digestion and stomach health (except rosemary).

Your skin, stomach and even your taste buds will doing a wee bit of a jig if you eat a half cup or cup of these GREEN foods a day!
